Added to our showroom today is a Winchester Model 1873 rifle in .44-40 Win. Carrying serial number 80134, this example of the gun that won the west (as it was popularly known) is dated from 1881.
1996 Cody letter shows that all parts are original on this second model 1873, except for its tang sight. The antique rifle has been refinished at some point by a third-party – note that the barrel has been hot blued (i.e., not the period-correct rust blue).
