Restored Colt Model 1905

$12,900.00

Description

The Model 1905 was a continuation of the Model 1902 and was the first Colt semi-auto handgun chambered for the new 45 ACP cartridge. There was considerable concern that the 38 ACP lacked the stopping power to be used as a defensive sidearm.

The first year of production for the Model 1905 was a sparse 9 pistols. Shipping began in December of that year. With a total of 6,210 Model 1905 pistols originally produced from 1905 to 1917 (none from 1913-1916 and only 3 in 1917), the Model 1905 is one of the scarcest “pre-1911” Colt pistols to be found.

This example, serial number 194, shipped as part of a 2-gun delivery in March 1906. It bears type-2 (of 4) slide markings, as used in early 1906 thru 1909, on approximately 3,900 pistols. Its case hardened hammer is of the round or “stub” variety used from 1905 thru late 1908, on approximately 3,600 pistols.

This example was restored by Turnbull in August of 2022, and has been expertly maintained by its owner since. Restoration work included:

  • Fabricate and fit new takedown plug and retaining pin
  • Polish frame, slide and all parts to period-correct high polish finish
  • Restore original markings
  • Charcoal blue frame, slide and parts
  • Color case harden hammer
  • Nitre blue trigger, magazine catch, rear sight, pins, barrel link, screws and takedown plug
  • Refinish perimeter of grips and diamonds, re-cut checkering to point
