L.C. Smith, Specialty E-Grade (Wildfowl)
Sold
Description
This L.C. Smith Specialty Grade Wildfowl was fully restored by Turnbull Restoration in 2005. Work included a complete stock re-finish & checkering re-cut, complete metal restoration with engraving re-cut and full polish, re-cut and re-blue on the barrels. The gun is fit with a Hunter One Selective Trigger with a gold plated trigger and ejectors. The factory letter lists the gun as an “E-Grade” with a “trap package”. The “trap package” may be a reference to the beaver tail forend wood.
The trigger guard is engraved in relief with the name “Dr. W.W. VanDerhoof”. The factory letter shows the gun being sold then returned and then sold again. Unfortunately the name on the trigger guard does not match either name on the factory letter.
This gun retains all of its color case hardening and bluing as it was restored. The gun has been shot with only minimal wear on the breech face of the receiver. The action and barrels remain tight. The stocks are in near mint condition with a barely visible hairline crack behind the right lock plate. The checkering is perfect with no worn or flat spots. The color case hardening, rust bluing & charcoal bluing on this gun look as good today as they did in 2005 when the gun was restored.
