Ithaca Sousa Single Barrel Trap
Sold
Description
The Sousa Special is the highest grade gun ever cataloged by the Ithaca Gun Co. The Sousa takes its name form John Phillip Sousa the famous composer and band leader. John Phillip Sousa lent his name to the Ithaca gun that bears his namesake but his personal version of the “Sousa Special” made in 1917 was not nearly as highly embellished. Sousa was an accomplished trap shooter and served as the president of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA,) which was founded in 1900 as the American Trapshooting Association.
This Sousa was built using an Ithaca Flues Victory grade as a base gun. The scroll engraving with a gold dog on each side of the receiver, gold duck in flight on the trigger plate and the gold mermaid on the trigger guard are based on an original Sousa pattern. The new stocks were made and finished by hand along with the original hand cut checkering pattern. The receiver is finished in traditional Bone Charcoal Color Case Hardening and the barrel is blued using the original Slow Rust Blue method.
