This fully restored Colt Single Action Army was originally restored by Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. in 2004. Restoration work included a new barrel, new cylinder, full mechanical rebuild, complete metal polish and restoration of the frame and barrel markings.
The barrel, cylinder, grip frame and ejector housing are all finished in period correct Charcoal Blue with the early (pre-1912 manufacture.) high polish Colt was known for. The frame, loading gate and hammer are finished with traditional Bone Charcoal Color Case Hardening. The screws, trigger and cylinder base pin are Nitre Blued which is correct for a Colt SAA produced prior to 1912.
The frame on this gun is the early “black powder” style with the cylinder base pin retained by a screw entering from the front of the frame. The interesting part is that the transition from the “black powder” frame to the “smokeless powder” frame (transverse cylinder latch) occurred in 1892 at approximately serial #144000. That is over 8,000 serial numbers past the transition. This may be one of the last black powder SAA frames Colt ever assembled.
