Description
Presented for you today is a Colt Model 1911 Government in .45 ACP. Carrying serial number C112786, this semi-automatic hand gun was built in 1919 and sold to the Argentine government. It is one of two Argentine Colt 1911s we brought in together.
In 1915, the Argentine government purchased 1,000 of this pistols, consecutively serial numbered in Colt’s regular serial range from C20001 to C1000, also marked with Argentine numbers from 1 to 1,000 on top of the slide. This pistols became known as the “Modelo 1916.” They were shipped to the London Armoury Company in England for reshipment to Argentina.
In 1919 Argentina placed a further order for 10,000 pistols. Deliveries began in May 1919 in the C86000 serial range and extended randomly to about C120000.
This 1911’s metal condition is fair, and appears to have been refinished at some time by a third party. Bore is good, and the checkered wood grips’ condition is fair.
